5 November 2018

Francis (Frannie) Howarth first started keeping pigeons when he was 7 years old. This at a time when in the 1950’s when there many more lofts in and around Clitheroe. Family members and friends lit his interest in this ancient sport and sixty years on, and more, this passion burns as brightly as ever which will be apparent when Frannie addresses the Society  at our next Public Meeting and Talk on  5th November.

Frannie is currently the Secretary of the Clitheroe Homing Society, the President of the North East Lancashire Nantes Two Day Championship Club, The North West Region Delegate (Clitheroe) of  the Royal Pigeon Racing Association (RPRA) and the Management Team Member for the Three Central Lancashire Clubs (CLC) and Central County Clubs (CCC).

His knowledge of this ancient sport, which played a strategic part in securing the safety of our nation during both World Wars in the last century and, prior to the coming of the Telegraph, was the fastest means of communication known to man, will be ably displayed in his presentation of ‘The Art, Science and History of Homing Pigeons’ - an insight into another world and not to be missed!
