Tony Goodbody
Honorary Life member Tony Goodbody sadly died in hospital on Sunday 14th June.
Dear Clitheroe, Civic Society Member
It is my sad duty, yet again, to have to contact you about the death of one of honorary Life Members. Tony Goodbody sadly died in hospital on Sunday 14th June.
As many will know, Tony has not been well for some time now but - with his determined spirit and support from Ann - he has kept going and I believe that this would have been his way throughout his life. Until the Society’s move to the Assembly Hall on Lowergate in December last year, Tony was still attending meetings and maintaining a keen interest in Society affairs alongside his many other interests. One of these, his collections of old photographs and postcards of Clitheroe, literally illustrates the love he had for his adopted home.
Many will remember his presentations of these in his informative and illuminating talks to the Society - and in the books he published on its behalf which recorded these. To see the actual extent of this interest all reading this are recommended to visit Tony’s blog @ https://tonygoodbody.webs.com/apps/blog/
Tony was a perfectionist, with a wry sense of humour and ever the gentlemen. His passing is a loss to the Town - and to this Society in particular who benefited so much from his steadfast membership, his service on the General Committee and as our Treasurer during the complex years of the project to save the Westminster Palace Pinnacle sited in the Castle Gardens. Without Tony’s meticulous oversight of the accounts for that project it simply would not had the successful outcome it did.
There are no funeral details available yet but, even when known, it is likely that - due the present Covoid restrictions - this will be limited to family only. It is to be hoped when life gets back to some sort of normality that all who knew him, or of him, and respected him, will have the opportunity to remember and celebrate his life with Ann and his family. As and when more details are known about this these will be shared with members.
With regards to all members on this sad occasion and condolences to Ann & Tony’s family for their sad loss.
